DERA GHAZI KHAN, June 3: Five polio cases have been detected by the representative of World Health Organization during the last two months in Dera and Rajanpur districts.
The WHO appointed its representatives to monitor the polio vaccination campaign after failure of earlier campaigns in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur and Muzaffargarh districts (defunct Dera Ghazi Khan division).
It was learnt that the divisional health authorities were trying to conceal the number of polio cases. That was why the WHO representatives sought the help of paediatrics doing private practice and the doctors of District Headquarters Hospital in this regard. Four cases were detected in Dera Ghazi Khan and one in Rajanpur during the drive.
The cases were detected in Wahowa, Khoh Kanday Wala, Bhutta Colony and Chowk Churahata (urban union councils), and Shahwali in Rajanpur district.
When this scribe contacted the WHO representatives, they refused to give details of their campaign.
