TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 6: The proposal of the next local council election has stirred the political circles, who have started making contacts for the district Nazim's slot. District Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq is learnt to have been making contacts with all councillors, former councillors , Nazims, their deputies and parliamentarians to ensure their support for his election. PML-N leader Chaudhry Asadur Rehman, an ex-federal minister, of Kamalia is in the race for the same office and he claims to enjoy the support of various parliamentarians of both ruling and opposition groups. He is the brother of Supreme Court's Justice Khalil Ramday.
Now a new candidate has emerged with the claim of having joint support of various political parties and the ruling group, which opposes the Nazim. This is former MNA Chaudhry Abdul Sattar, the owner of a ghee mills in Multan.
Interestingly, he had almost abandoned politics and shifted to Multan, but now he is back to the arena on the backing by the Nazim's rivals. Prominent among his likely supporters are Punjab Forest Minister Dr Ashfaqur Rehman, Punjab Women Development Minister Ashfa Fatyana, MNA Riaz Fatyana, MNA Chaudhry Amjad Ali Warriach, former PPP central executive committee member Ghayyasuddin Janbaz and MPA Chaudhry Bilal Asghar.
Chaudhry Sattar has recently been shifted to Toba Tek Singh and is contacting people of his group in urban and rural areas.
Political analysts believe that there will be a tough contest between Chaudhry Ashfaq and Chaudhry Sattar.
