KARACHI, Nov 4: A five-year-old boy, who had been kidnapped ten days ago was recovered on Thursday, and three of his kidnappers, including a woman, were arrested.
Police, along with the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee, raided a place in Malir and recovered the boy, Faizan, who was allegedly kidnapped by one of his neighbours, CPLC officials said.
Those arrested were identified as the accused neighbour, Jamil Sharif, his sister Zaibun Nisa and her husband Shamshad Ali. The police also recovered the ransom money and jewellery which the accused had received.
The officials said that after the boy went missing and his father, Naimatullah, reported the matter to the police, Jamil called the father of the missing child at his home and told him that he (Jamil) had been taken away and made hostage at a place where Faizan, along with some other children, was kept. Jamil also claimed that the kidnappers had beaten him for being a neighbour of Faizan and told him to tell the boy's father to arrange Rs200,000 as ransom money, they added.
Naimatullah suspected the statement of Jamil and informed the police about it. The police advised him to strike a deal with Jamil and the police and the CPLC placed a check on the movement of Jamil.
As planned, the deal was struck at Rs50,000 and Naimatullah gave the amount to Jamil, who went to Malir by changing buses and taxis, while being chased by the police and CPLC. Jamil went inside a house and after some time came out with the child, who was crying. The police arrested Jamil and recovered the child.
The police also raided the house and arrested the couple inside following the recovery of the ransom amount and jewellry.
MOTORCYCLE LIFTERS: The Anti-Car Lifting Cell of the police arrested seven alleged motorbike lifters and recovered 18 motorcycles from them.
Those arrested were Mohammad Danish, Mohammad Shahid, Mohammad Akhtar, Jamal Haider, Talib Hussain, Mohammad Sarwar, and Ateeq Ahmed.
The accused confessed to stealing motorcycles, tempering their registration and chassis numbers and selling them out at low prices, the police said. Fake stamps and registration books had also been recovered from the suspects, it added.
According to investigations, Shahid and Akhtar lifted motorbikes from various areas and handed them over to Iqbal. Danish, who was an auto mechanic, allegedly replaced the parts of stolen motorbikes and even changed their engine numbers.
