NOWSHERA, Oct 30: About a hundred teachers took out a protest demonstration and staged a sit-in here on Friday to protest against non-payment of salaries to them for the last eight months.

The teachers include those who were promoted from PTC to CT posts, but they have not received salaries since their promotion eight months back.

The protesting teachers marched to the office of the EDO (education) and then marched to the DCO offices to register their protest against non-payment of their salaries.

The rally turned into a public meeting at the Shobra Chowk on GT road in the Nowshera town where speakers criticized top officials of the education department for turning a blind eye to problems of the teachers.

The speakers said that the teachers were facing a number of problems due to non-payment of their salaries, demanding of the government to initiate an inquiry against those officials who were making hurdles in the way of regularization of their salaries.

They said that if their demands were not fulfilled till Monday, the teachers would again organize a demonstration along with their families to protest against the apathy of the quarters concerned.

Later, speaking to protesting teachers, the DCO assured them that the government would look into their demand and solve it.
