PM satisfied with economic indicators

KARACHI, Oct 30: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that economic indicators of the first quarter of the current financial year are very encouraging and Pakistan has a very bright future for the coming generation.

He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of a new plant at the Security Papers Limited (SPL) here on Saturday.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan, Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, State Bank Governor Dr Ishrat Hussain were also present on the occasion.

The Prime Minister said competency, commitment, strategy, vision and human resource development are the key factors which provide a solid base for the speedy development of any organization.

He stressed the need for bringing improvement in working and management of public sector organizations to produce solid result and compete in the market.

Shaukat Aziz said the government is following a policy of minimum interference in public sector organizations while providing them conducive atmosphere and necessary incentives.

He said every organization should fix targets for itself and plan to achieve them in the shortest possible time ensuring the quality and service of the product.

The Prime Minister appreciated the pace of development and performance of Security Papers Limited in the recent years and congratulated the management of SPL for acquiring most modern technology available in the world.

He said by the inauguration of the paper making plant Pakistan has entered in the new era of security paper technology.

Earlier, the Chairman and Chief Executive of Security Papers Limited (SPL) Syed Naseem Ahmed in his address of welcome highlighted the profile and working of the SPL.

He said the paper making plant inaugurated today by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz is a joint venture of Pakistan, Turkey and Iran with a capacity of making 2000 tons of paper annually which can be enhanced up to 3500 tons per year.

He said the new paper machine (PM-2) is most modern based on state-of-the-art technology, fully automatic and computerized.

To cope with modern machines requirement, local as well as foreign training was imparted to the engineers and production staff of the SPL.

Syed Naseem Ahmed said the SPL holds Top Companies Award of Karachi Stock Exchange for 2000, 2001 and 2002, JCR-VIS has assigned corporate governance rating of CGR-8 to the Company. The assigned rating denotes a "high level of corporate government", the Joint Committee of ICAP/ ICMAP has awarded the Best Corporate Award 2003.

All this is only the beginning, SPL is all set to sustain the accomplishments and is pledged to even better performance in future.

He said the SPL has an ambitious plans for the future also.-APP
