KARACHI, Oct 28: Sindh Education and Literacy Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro, under the Curriculum and Textbook Development Programme, has invited suggestions from educationists, teachers, journalists, public representatives, NGOs, parents and masses, on the textbooks presently being taught at the educational institutions in the province.
The minister said in a statement on Thursday that curriculum and textbooks needed to be reviewed to make them free of errors, student-friendly, and result-oriented with the help of illustrations and attractive layout.
She said that after assuming his office, she had given top priority to updating the syllabus and textbooks in the province.
For this purpose, she said, she held a series of meetings with education experts and teachers, who had contributed through their observations on the issue, and now for scientific and objective analysis of the proposals, opinions of all concerned quarters were being invited with a view to make the whole exercise a real success.
Dr Khuhro further said that all those who wanted to recommend their proposals might send the same through mail to the director, Bureau of Curriculum, Jamshoro, who was coordinator for the task.
"The suggestions shall be welcomed from Nov 1 to 15, and thereafter a committee, consisting of subject specialist of the Bureau of Curriculum and Sindh Textbook Board shall analyze and categorize the suggestions to give them shape of workable recommendations", she added.
She said that as the third phase of this exercise, a two-day conference was being planned in December, where all the suggestions and recommendations would be given final shape, and syllabus and textbooks would accordingly be improved.-PPI
