KARACHI: Use of mobile phone banned while driving

KARACHI, Oct 27: The Sindh government has amended the West Pakistan Motor Vehicles Rules 1969 providing for ban on the use of mobile phone while driving. According to an official notification, the following amendment has been made.

In Rule-8, for sub-rule (1) the following shall be substituted:

(a) In case of an application for a license to drive transport vehicle, other than delivery van, or to drive any vehicle as a paid employee byLicensing Authority.

(b) In case of a license to drive any other vehicle, by an inspector, sub-inspector or sergeant authorized by the SP in this behalf; provided that in either case a second test may be conducted, if and when so required by any officer authorized by the government in consultation with Provincial Police Officer, Sindh.

After Rule-220, the following shall be added: "220-A. No person shall use mobile phone while driving a motor vehicle.

After Rule 234, the following shall be added: "234-A. In every motor vehicle, there shall be a belt in the front seat which shall be fastened by the person sitting on such seat while the vehicle is in motion. -APP
