LARKANA, Oct 25: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Larkana, on Monday announced names of position holders in the Higher Secondary Certificate-II (humanitiesgroup) examinations of 2004.
Among boys, Ali Bakhsh Bozdar of the Government Degree College, Ratodero, secured the first position by obtaining 774 marks. Tahir Ali Bhutto of the same college obtained 749 marks and stood second while Mujahid Ali Chandio of the Government College, Khairpur Nathan Shah, grabbed the third position with 741 marks.
Among girls, Humira Jawed Arain of the Wapda College, Guddu, got the first position by obtaining 794 marks, Asma Parveen Arani got 760 marks and stood second and Ambreen Rajput of the Wapda College, Guddu, took the third position with 755 marks.
As many as 5,425 candidates had appeared in the examinations, 4,636 of whom were declared passed and 114 were reported for copying. A total number of 505 candidates passed the examinations in B grade, 2,770 in C grade, 1,311 in D grade and 48 in E grade. The pass percentage remained 86.33.
KILLED: Two persons killed one Abdul Ghafoor Abro in the Qadir Bakhsh Abro village near Dokri on Monday and threw his body in a nearby irrigation channel.
The alleged killers, Tottal and Iqbal Abro, later surrendered at the Bakrani police station along with weapons used in the crime.
Police said the accused had confessed to have killed the man to avenge the murder of their grandfather by Abdul Ghafoor. Police have registered an FIR.
STRIKE: Hundreds of labourers working at 45 rice mills in the Larkana taluka went on strike on Monday to protest against the mills for not increasing their wages.
Carrying banners and placards and demanding increase in their wages, the workers took out a procession from Labour Colony and after marching through main roads of the town assembled outside the district council hall.
Speaking on the occasion, labourers' association president Qadir Bakhsh Kurd, Gul Mohammad Baloch and Aziz Abbasi said the millers had not increased their salaries since 2001.
They said they had been demanding rise in their wages but the mill owners had not accepted their demands which had forced them to go on strike. They regretted that they had not been given even the mandatory 20 per cent annual rise in the salary.
They said the strike would continue till the acceptance of their demands.
