KARACHI, Oct 24: The Chief Secretary, Mohammad Aslam Sanjrani, taking notice of various civic problems being faced by people in the metropolis during the holy month of Ramazan , has stressed the concerned authorities to take effective and result-oriented steps for addressing these problems.

He issued this directive while drawing attention of the concerned authorities towards the shortage of water, supply of contaminated water at some places, accumulation of sewerage water on roads and streets, and encroachments along roads and on footpaths by vendors etc, said a handout on Sunday.

To overcome water shortages in various parts of the city, the chief secretary directed the water board's authorities to devise an effective strategy to cope with hurdles in the way of water supply.

In case of power failures, he asked that it be ensured that water be supplied using power from generators so that people did not face hardships in the holy month.

Mr Sanjrani, expressing concern over the excessive presence of mosquitoes and spread of viral diseases due to accumulation of sewerage water on roads and streets, instructed the Water and Sewerage Board officials to rectify faults in the sewerage system within three days.

He also expressed apprehension on the reports of supply of polluted water in some localities, and asked the managing director, KWSB to look into this matter. - APP
