MIRPURKHAS: 2 polio cases found in Umerkot

MIRPURKHAS, Oct 24: EDO health Dr Hadi Bux Leghari has said that two cases of polio have been diagnosed in Umerkot taluka while a total of seven cases including three suspected have been detected in Pithoro and Umerkot talukas.

In a handout issued here on Saturday, he said the reports of new cases were being sent to Islamabad for a laboratory test.

Mr Leghari said the preventive measures had also been taken in Umerkot, Pithoro and Mirpurkhas talukas.

He called upon the people to contact the nearby health centres for getting their children vaccinated against polio and seven other diseases.

He said the people who failed to get their children vaccinated in the last campaign must do it now.

He urged people to cooperate with health officials to eradicate the diseases.

FOUND DEAD: The body of a youth was recovered from a pool of Mehran cotton and ginning factory on Saturday.

Police said the deceased was identified as Asghar, son of Aslam, a resident of Mirpurkhas Sugar mill colony.

PROBE DEMANDED: Tharparkar DPO Zulfikar Larik has started investigation into the case of Qutubuddin who had died in police custody two months back.

Provincial Police Officer Syed Kamal Shah had ordered the investigation.

The DPO visited the Shadi Palli police station and recorded statements of the deceased's uncle Raheem Shah and Zahoor Shah.

A case in this connection was registered against former SHO Bilawal Mahar, ASI Noor Soomro, head-constable Sharif Nohrio, constables Lakhmir Chand and Jamal Shah.

It may be mentioned that no confidence was shown in the first investigation which was done by a police official, Ibrahim Shahani.

The Mirpurkhas judicial magistrate had written a letter to the PPO Sindh and RPO Hyderabad, telling them the facts.

He urged the PPO to transfer investigation to some honest officer for providing justice to heirs of the deceased.
