BADIN, Oct 24: On the call of fishermen, a big procession was taken out here on Saturday in protest against alleged torture of fishermen by Rangers.
People's Party Parliamentarians MNA Dr Fahmida Mirza, MPA Dr Sikandar Mandhro, Taluka Nazim Dr Mussarat Khawaja and activists of political and social organizations participated in the procession.
The protestors carried banners and placards inscribed with slogans against Rangers.
They marched on the main roads and staged a sit-in outside the Awan-e-Sahafat.
Speaking on the occasion, the leaders demanded that Rangers should be withdrawn from the traditional fishing areas.
They demanded that the government should put an end to the contract system and announce the withdrawal of Rangers.
The speakers demanded that Rangers involved in the torture on fishermen should be prosecuted.
They said the fishermen were being harassed and tortured and false cases were registered against them.
Meanwhile, the Badin taluka council unanimously adopted a resolution, calling for a free fishing zone at the Zero Point to help the community deprived of their fishing rights.
The meeting alleged that two Rangers had subjected women and children to torture in Kandri village.
It called for action against the personnel and registration of cases against them.
