MITHI, Oct 20: Malaria cases are on the rise for the last couple of weeks and the people of Tharparkar are passing sleepless nights due to the menace of mosquitoes.

Talking to this correspondent on Wednesday, a number of people said that no anti-mosquito spray had been carried out in the district for one and half decade hence the mosquito population had alarmingly increased.

They said the infestation had multiplied the miseries of people and increased malaria cases.

It may be mentioned that the district council had drawn the attention of authorities concerned towards the infestation of insects by passing resolutions and demanded that anti-insects spray be carried out in villages and towns.

It was also learnt that almost every union council had also made hue and cry regarding the menace of mosquitoes but none of the government functionaries paid due attention to the problem.

When Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim had recently visited Mithi, a number of notables had also told him about the problem.

Responding to their complaints the Sindh chief minister had directed the EDO health for remedial measures.
