HYDERABAD, Oct 29: The Naib Ameer and former senator JUI (F) Hafiz Hussain Ahmed has demanded of President Gen Pervez Musharraf to hand over power to the political parties and take over the command of the army in the trenches which was his basic duty.
He was addressing a sizable rally of party workers outside the Hyderabad Press Club on Monday.
Before his arrival, many JUI activists took out a procession from the Hyderabad Press Club and after marching through the main roads of the city they returned to the press club where they were addressed by Hafiz Hussain Ahmed and other leaders.
He reminded Gen Musharraf of the fate of two earlier Pervezs of Muslim history who were the enemies of Islam. Similarly, he said there were two Umers, Umer bin Khittab and Umer bin Abdul Aziz. He said a third: Mulla Mohammad Umer, a Mujahid of Afghanistan, was emulating the two earlier Ameerul Momineen.
He said the JUI workers will defend the country with their lives.
Mr Ahmed said that he was paid for defending the country and as the very existence of the country was at stake, therefore, he should go to the frontline.
He said Gen Pervez Musharraf was an unconstitutional president who had banned the freedom of expression.
He said Gen Musharraf was talking about a broad-based government in Afghanistan whereas he himself had acknowledged the Taliban Government and the ambassador of Afghanistan too was present at Islamabad, and added that this was nothing but hypocrisy. He further said that a broad-based government was needed in Pakistan and not in Afghanistan.
He ridiculed the claim of the president that he was cooperating with the US to protect the atom bomb.
He claimed that our atom bomb was “an Islamic bomb” and it was for the protection of the country and Islam and not for its own protection.
Mr Ahmed said the detention of Maulana Fazlur Rehman and the registration of a treason case against him could not stem the tide of JUI workers’ onslaught.
He said the Muslims of the world were simply “waiting for the call of Mulla Mohammad Umer”. He said the protest demonstrations were being held to pressure the government to change its policies.
He said that civil disobedience was always against a civilian government and not against military dictatorship, and added that things had gone beyond civil disobedience.
Mr Ahmed said the Jacobabad airport had been handed over to the US and now there was a move to handover the Hyderabad and Mianwali airports, and added that this would endanger the Chashma nuclear facilities. He further said that “our air force was being rendered ineffective”.
He said that in the early 90s, the then American president, George Bush, along with “his 40 thieves” had entered the Gulf countries with a view to taking over its oil resources, and added that the American forces were still there even after 11 years.
He said that Bush’s eyes were now focussed on the oil and gas resources of the Central Asian Muslim Republics, the marble of Afghanistan, and the natural resources of Pakistan.
