SUKKUR, Oct 16: The Sindh regional office of the Environmental Protection Agency in collaboration with Sukkur and Jacobabad police started a campaign against smoke and noise emitting vehicles in the two districts.

Similar campaign will also be started in Khairpur, Larkana and Nawabshah districts, according to a press statement issued by the EPA here on Friday.

In Sukkur, the drive was started under the supervision and monitoring of the deputy director of the EPA where as per instructions of the DPO, officials of the traffic police were available to take on the spot action as per law.

A large number of rickshaws and other vehicles were challaned on the first day of the campaign which will continue upto Oct 30 on alternate days.

Similarly, the daily report of vehicles challaned due to smoke and pressure horns is sent to the EPA regional office by the office of the DPO Jacobabad.

According to the Jacobabad Traffic Sergeant, daily average of vehicles challaned in the city is about 20.

NAZIM: District Nazim Nasir Hussain Shah presided over a meeting here on Monday to discuss prices of essential commodities during the holy month of Ramazan.

He directed the wholesale dealers and retailers to sell their commodities at fixed rates as were prevalent in the market before the holy month.

He urged the shopkeepers to avoid high charges and display the list of prices at their shops.

He said a control room had been setup in every Taluka headquarters to register complaints against shopkeepers who were involved in illegal profiteering.

The district nazim urged the police to ensure patrolling on the routes of mosques and imambargahs particularly during Taraveh time so that no any miscreant could disturb peaceful atmosphere during the sacred month of Ramazan.

He directed the TMO to ensure lighting and cleanliness on the routes of mosques and imambargahs.

TEACHERS' DAY: Teachers can play a major role in the development of country.

This was stated by District Nazim Nasir Hussain Shah while addressing the Salam Pakistan Award Ceremony organized by the education department at the College of Education, Sukkur.

He announced Rs.100,000 cash award from the district government funds for the best teacher of the district.
