ISLAMABAD, Sept 25: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has set up special desks across the country for on the spot national tax number (NTN) verification by the taxpayers.

CBR member, information management system, Aamir Z. Chaudhry told Dawn on Saturday that these desks were established at the offices of NTN registration.

He said taxpayers could also verify their NTNs from their local NTN registration offices. The NTN verification could also be made via internet on CBR website: www.cbr.gov.pk.

He said that CBR has already assigned NTNs to majority of taxpayers, that had filed their tax returns last year. They could now verify their number.

Similarly, he said in future only those taxpayers would be able to claim credit of the tax paid by them, if they have put their NIC or NTN on the challan forms.

In this regard, he said the State Bank and National Bank has been directed to receive only those challans from the taxpayers, which have this information.
