HYDERABAD, Sept 18: Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit, has directed the management of the Zeal-Pak Cement Factory to ensure payment of dues to workers under the golden handshake scheme.
The order was passed on Sept 9 in four criminal revision applications, a certified copy of which was given to Dawn by workers on Saturday.
It may be recalled that some of the former workers whose golden handshake cheques were not honoured by the bank had moved the District Human Rights Board, (district and sessions judge) against the non-payment of their outstanding dues.
The session judge had ordered the registration of FIRs against the factory management.
However, M.A. Jalil of the Zeal Pak Cement factory had filed a criminal review applications in the SHC.
While disposing of revision applications, Justice Usmani, termed the criminal revision applications as "not pressed".
He said: "consequently the management of the company is directed to ensure that the workers who have been terminated receive their dues under the scheme".
It may be pointed out that following the privatisation of factory some years back, workers were terminated under the golden handshake scheme and they were issued cheques as quid pro quo for their outstanding dues.
According to employees, 242 cheques were dishonoured by the bank for want of funds.
