LAHORE, Sept 18: Using his emergency powers, the Punjab University vice-chancellor has approved establishment of the College of Engineering and Emerging Technologies (CEET) in anticipation of approval of relevant bodies.

The college will have four departments: metallurgy and material engineering, polymer engineering and technology, electronic and telecommunication engineering, and fuel engineering and energy technology.

The VC has also approved re-structuring of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.

According to the revised plan, the CEET will work along with the Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Institute of Quality and Technology Management, and the engineering research centre under university's faculty of engineering and technology.

Engineering and technology dean Prof Dr Arif Butt said the college would formally open early next month. He said the senior-most professor from the faculty would be appointed principal of the college.

Prof Butt said the faculty had approved four departments in the first phase and more departments would be included afterwards.

At present, he said, faculty was available for three departments while teachers for electronic and telecommunication engineering would be hired shortly.

He said courses in metallurgy and material engineering were already in progress, while the other three departments would admit students after declaration of FSc results next year. He said each course would be of four-year duration.

EVENING CLINIC: The PU health centre has established an evening clinic at the staff residential colony.

VC Arshad Mahmood inaugurated the clinic while centre's chief medical officer Dr Farasat Ali Syed made a presentation about it. He said a doctor would perform his duties at the clinic from 3pm to 9pm. He said an ambulance and other health care facilities would be available at the clinic.

The health centre also arranged a free blood sugar analysis camp, sponsored by a multinational pharmaceutical company for diabetics.
