ISLAMABAD, June 2: About 105 objections were received by the assistant election commissioner regarding electoral rolls of 18 to 21 years old people, an official of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) told Dawn on Saturday.
The official said June 1 was the last day for filing objections.
“We were expecting thousands of objections from Islamabad, but people did not respond according to our expectations,” the official added.
He said according to Nadra’s electoral rolls, the total number of voters in the age group of 18 to 21 years was approximately 38,000.
However, some 1,000 names were removed from the lists by the ECP because they had been written many times.
Responding to a question, the official said the Election Commission of Pakistan would send objections to Nadra again within a couple of days and the authority would issue final electoral rolls in the first week of July.
The electoral rolls of 18 to 21 years had been prepared for the first time in the history of the capital so that people in this age group could cast their vote both in local government polls and general elections to be held in Islamabad.
The source said all previous union council polls and general elections in Islamabad were held on electoral rolls of 21-year old people.
He said a number of discrepancies had been found in the voters’ lists issued by Nadra.
“Some who are stated to be under-age, residents of other parts of the country and ineligible by any means have been included in the fresh election rolls,” the official said.
