LAHORE, July 22: Shaharyar M. Khan, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, described Pakistan's dismal performance in the Asia Cup match against Sri Lanka as 'very disappointing'.

Talking to reporters, at the Qadhafi Stadium on Thursday, the PCB chief said that it seemed there was no difference between the Wednesday's display in Colombo and the one against India in the home series recently.

Pakistan were outclassed by seven wickets in their opening super league.

Mr Khan said that the way the Pakistani batsmen threw away their wickets was very surprising. He however said that Abdul Razzaq tried to buckle down and made a good contribution, but in the end, he also got out because of a reckless shot.

The PCB has inducted former South African coach Bob Woolmer in place of Javed Miandad, who was sacked after Pakistan lost the home series to India. It also hired a foreign trainer and a physiotherapist on Woolmer's recommendation.

The PCB chairman said that the defeat must have been shocking for Woolmer, but added it would help the coach to build future strategy.

He noted that Pakistan played well against Bangladesh and Hong Kong in the group matches although those victories were worthless as far as international ranking was concerned.

Meanwhile, Mr Khan said that the PCB officials were ready to appear before the Senate Standing Committee on Sports after every week.

The committee had summoned the board's officials twice to explain the reasons behind the defeat at the hands of India and to answer questions regarding the financial and constitution matters of the board.
