ISLAMABAD, July 22: Pakistan greatly values its warm and cordial relations with Germany and seeks to strengthen these ties on solid footings in future.
These views were expressed by National Assembly speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain during a meeting with a German parliamentary delegation, led by Wolfgang Krause, the head of the friendship group in German Bundestag, at the Parliament House on Thursday.
Mr Hussain appreciated the role played by Germany in achieving European integration and shaping the structure of an enlarged European Union.
Mr Krause appreciated Pakistan's role in Afghanistan's reconstruction and its fight against terror. He agreed on furthering parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
"This visit is an important milestone in promoting Germany- Pakistan parliamentary friendship and cooperation. It will also provide ample opportunities for expansion of bilateral relations in economic, cultural, social and political spheres," Mr Krause said.
Earlier, Mr Hussain informed the German delegation of structural reforms in the democratic system at federal, provincial and local bodies level in the country.
"The increase in number of National Assembly seats, lowering of voter's age and participation of women at all levels have widened the scope and extent of people's participation in national politics," the NA speaker said.
