SHEIKHUPURA, July 22: The 206th annual urs of sufi poet Pir Syed Waris Shah is beginning here on Friday at the Waris Shah Memorial Complex.

The three-day celebrations include kabaddi matches, horse dancing, Punjabi poetry sessions, staging of play 'Heer Ranjha' and folk dances reflecting the culture of the four provinces.

District Nazim Chaudhry Tawakalullah Virk is scheduled to inaugurate the urs by washing the tomb.

Heer recitation competition will be held on July 24 in which a large number of vocalists will participate. A floral wreath will be laid at the shrine the same day by provincial cultural minister Shaukat Ali Bhatti.

The complex was built by the Waris Shah Memorial Society in 1983 at a cost of Rs8 million. Spreading over 64 kanals, the complex has a tomb, a library, 17 shops, a rest house and a stage for holding competitions.

MURDERED: Two persons were killed while another suffered injuries in different incident in the district on Thursday.

In Muridke, Liaquat along with four other accomplices shot dead shopkeeper Mujahid Sultan over monetary dispute. Liaquat, one of the assailants, also injured himself with his own gun to give the incident shape of crossfire.

In another incident, motorcyclist Shakoor was knocked down by a speedy bus near Manawala. He died on the spot.
