KARACHI, July 22: The city government is planning dualization of PIDC bridge, besides widening it, for a smooth flow of traffic on the bridge as well as M. T. Khan Road.
City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has approved the plan and directed the EDO (Works and Service), Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, to call tenders for immediate commencement of construction work.
Mr Siddiqui told the nazim that tender forms would be issued from July 31. Stressing that flyovers are needed to resolve traffic problems at congested and busy intersections of the city, the nazim issued directives for preparing traffic development projects to ensure a smooth flow of traffic on these intersections.
He said that the city government was working, on a priority basis, on a proposal to make Sharea Faisal a 'single-free road', and hoped that FTC and Shahrah-i-Quaideen flyovers would be completed ahead of schedule, like Shah Faisal flyover.
He also directed the concerned officials to ensure completion of the remaining work on the ramp of FTC flyover as early as possible, saying that all bottlenecks in this regard be removed.
He said that flyovers would be constructed on Habib Rehmatullah Road-Sharea Faisal intersection and called for chalking out a plan for more flyovers on Sharea Faisal for those visiting Jinnah hospital.
"Flyover would also be constructed at Hasan Square, University Road," he further said, and also directed the Transport and Communication Department to chalk out a plan for the construction of a terminal for inter-city buses.-PPI
