ISLAMABAD, Oct 29: The National Accountability Bureau, Peshawar, has arrested Aurangzeb, Assistant Director, Primary Education Project (PEP), NWFP.

This is sequel to arrests of five other officials of C&W Department, NWFP, on Sept 26, who had, collectively, misappropriated Rs257.182 million, earmarked for the project in district Dir.

On his part, Aurangzeb had played a conspicuous role in facilitating the illegal placement of the amount at the disposal of C&W officials, now under custody, by issuing bogus/fake authorization letters to the tune of Rs 100 million.

Investigation has made much headway. On finalisation, detailed figures i.e. losses incurred by the state as well as illegal pecuniary gains made by the accused persons, will emerge for the prosecution of the case under NAB Ordinance.

The accused was on Monday produced before the Accountability Court No 2, presided over by Attaullah Khan, and remanded into RAB custody for 13 days.—APP
