KABUL, June 12: Suspected rebels rocketed a convoy carrying UN officials and electoral staff as well as an Afghan governor and US-led coalition troops but there were no casualties or damage, an official said on Saturday

The 50-odd vehicle convoy came under attack from several rocket-propelled grenades on Friday in southeastern Paktika's Gomal district, about 220 kilometres southeast of Kabul.

"Our convoy came under rocket attack with three RPGs which luckily missed," Abdul Wali, spokesman for provincial governor Gulab Mangal said.

"We returned fire to the area from where we were attacked, but since the attackers were far (away) they managed to escape."

The convoy was on a visit to three districts when the attack occurred in an area less than 40 kilometres from the town of Shkin on the Pakistan border.-AFP
