ISLAMABAD, June 1: Interior Minister Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat ruled out on Tuesday the possibility of enforcing governor rule in Sindh.
Talking to journalists at a function held here in connection with the merger of the Pakistan People's Party (Sherpao) and the Pakistan People's Party (Patriots), the minister said although the law and order situation in Karachi was not satisfactory yet the governor rule would not be enforced there.
Responding to a question about a statement of President General Pervez Musharraf regarding new 'security setup' in Karachi, he said the president had never hinted at the enforcement of governor rule in Sindh even in the recent spate of terrorism.
He was reluctant to elaborate a new 'security plan' to be implemented in Karachi under the directives of President Musharraf. However, he said, some new changes would be seen in Karachi in terms of security and law and order situation within next few days.
Talking about the assassination of religious scholar Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai, the minister said the Karachi police had found vital clues in this case. Meanwhile, talking to newsmen in the lobbies of parliament house after the adjournment of National Assembly session, Mr Hayat said the federal government had decided to take 'suitable action' to bring life in Karachi back to normality.
Without specifying the nature of the action, he said some drastic action would soon be initiated to normalise the conditions there. Without committing whether the action meant bringing about change in administration or the political setup, he said: "Our aim is to bring normalcy back to Karachi and we will do whatever is possible to achieve this objective."
