KARACHI, May 15: Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has appreciated the dedication and commitment of the Chinese workers, who were injured in Gwadar bomb blast, and said that the manner in which they were discharging their responsibilities was highly impressive.
He was talking to a delegation of Chinese investors who called on him at the Governor's House here on Saturday.
He said that after the blast, he had visited the injured workers in hospital and inquired about their health. He said the incident was regretful but seeing the courage and spirit of Chinese workers, he was confident that participation of both countries in development would prove meaningful.
Welcoming the signing of the agreement for light rail project, Dr Ibad said the project was vital the city. He hoped that the existing cooperation between the two countries in the development of this city and other areas of the province would increase further. He also hailed the growing economic cooperation between the two sides.
He observed that China was playing a significant role in various development projects, including Thar Coal.
The governor held out the assurance that the provincial government would extend full cooperation to the Chinese company and city government in executing the light rail project.
He expressed the hope that this project would be completed within the stipulated time and according to the schedule. He also hoped that on completion, the light rail project would prove the fastest commuting facilities for people and would bring about a remarkable improvement in the city's traffic system.
It may be mentioned here that the MoU for this project was signed a few months back at the Governor's House. Dr Ibad was also present at the ceremony.
The governor congratulated the Chinese investors, city government and people of Karachi on the progress made in this regard.
Earlier, Senior Vice-President of China Machinery and Equipment Group Gu Zhengxie, City Nazim Niamatullah Khan and Chinese Consul General spoke on various aspects of the project and Pakistan-China cooperation.
Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkil Kazi, DCO Mir Hussain Ali and other officials were present on the occasion.-APP/PPI
