ISLAMABAD, April 30: The National Accountability Bureau on Friday moved an application before the Supreme Court seeking 'appropriate' action against senior counsel Abdul Hafeez Pirzada and Farooq H. Naek for allegedly misleading the court and the Press during the hearing of an assets case against PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari.

Taking exception to the statement of Mr Pirzada that a prosecution witness, Naqi Imam Malik, had not been re-examined after he had been re-summoned by an accountability court, NAB requested the Supreme Court to take appropriate action against the counsel for abusing the process of law.

A copy of the re-examination of the prosecution witness by the accountability court has been submitted with the NAB application. The application states that the re-examination was held in presence of Mr Naek, yet both lawyers misled the court by stating that Mr Malik was not re-examined.

NAB authorities maintained that through the 'wrong' statement by Mr Naek and Mr Pirzada not only the Press was misled but the Supreme Court too was not informed properly and as such the process of law was abused.

Mr Naek, when contacted, told Dawn that neither had they any intention nor could think of misleading the court. He said a reply would be given when after received a notice in this regard.
