KARACHI, April 2: Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that collective efforts by town-planners and architects and better vision of SAARC countries will have a revolutionary impact on housing and living style.
He was talking to the delegates of the two-day conference of SAARC Association of Architects who called on him at the Governor House here on Friday.
The delegates were of the opinion that Karachi, which is going to become the headquarters of SAARC region in the next two years, will give a reflection of town-planning and a beautiful environment.
The governor said the government is committed for an exemplary development of not only Karachi, but other cities of the province and the country in respect of town-planning.
He noted that population in any city has a deep closeness with town-planning.
The populace where town-planning is carried out with a better vision, the problems including law and order, are sparsely faced while attitude of people and living-style too give civilized and positive reflection.
The governor emphasised the need for developing the slums into better habitations so as to bring an improvement in the standard of living of the common man and in this regard, the town-planners play a significant role.
He called for better coordination between experts in the field and the government and assured of government's cooperation.
He expressed the hope that the conference would provide an opportunity to town-planners of SAARC countries in having a fruitful exchange of views and experiences.
The governor observed that this interaction would cast best impact on the region and its results would reach the people. He pointed out that the ideas which the town-planners would bring forward today would have their influence on the future generations.
The delegates opined that the feelings which Dr Ishratul Ibad harbours for the people of the province would also spread to all parts of the region.
They said that people of Pakistan are the trustees of a civilized town-planning not today but since centuries and Moenjodaro is an example of this.-APP
