Lahore Board clinch: Rashid voted best athlete general trophy

PESHAWAR, Feb 28: Faisalabad Board's Muhammad Rashid was declared best athlete of the Pakistan Boards Athletics Meet which concluded on Saturday at Mahabat Khan Sports Gymnasium.

Rashid who secured 19 points including victory in the 100m dash also enabled Faisalabad to clinch athletics overall trophy. For his efforts Rashid won Rs5,000 and a glittering trophy.

He finished ahead of local lad Asad Iqbal who was named second best athlete. Asad on Friday won the 200m sprint. Asad received Rs3,000 and a trophy.

Rashid clocked 11.10 seconds to pip Asad Iqbal and Naveed of Karach who were timed 11.12 and 11.20 seconds.

The day's other final the 1500 metre was won by Sarghoda's Ali Mohammad who was timed 4 minutes 21 seconds. Gujranwala's Hashimd and Ehsan Ali of Lahore finished second and third with times of 4:22.66 and 4:23.56.

Faisalabad Board secured 105.5 points in 18 different events participated by more then 400 athletes from 18 different education boards from all over the country.

Lahore Board ended up runners-up scoring 58 points while Gujranwala Board finished in third place 42.5 points.

The overall general trophy was grabbed by Lahore Board by registering 41 points among 26 boards participated in major and minor games held at different venues.

Lahore got first positions in four major games: gymnastics, hockey, football and table tennis while remained runners-up in swimming, weightlifting, karate, wrestling, kabaddi, handball and athletics.-APP
