WATER THEFT: Growers of the Shaheed Fazil Rahu taluka have accused the irrigation officials of stealing water from the Alipur regulator of the Mirwah Canal.

Talking to journalists here on Wednesday, Abdul Sattar Chang, Hashim Ahmadani and other growers said the officials were diverting water from the regulator to lands of some officials of the Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authorities and influential landlords of the area.

They said the irrigation officials had created artificial water shortage as they were not releasing required water downstream from the regulator.

The growers said their crops had been destroyed due to the non-judicious distribution of water.

They said they had been protesting against the water shortage and made complaints to authorities concerned but they had not been supplied their share of water.

They demanded that the government should ensure proper distribution of water.
