MPs asked to resolve people's problems

PESHAWAR, Feb 4: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said that accessibility of the government to the people, solution to people's problems , boosting the confidence of the people and removing obstacles to social service delivery system are the basics of good governance.

This he said while exchanging Eid greetings with different delegations of people, members of national and provincial assemblies, senators and journalists who called on him at the Frontier House on Wednesday.

Peshawar Corps Commander, Chief Secretary, IGP, District and Town Nazmeen visited the Frontier House to exchange Eid greetings with the chief minister. Delegations of minorities, Afghan refugees, tribal areas and a cross sections of society also met the chief minister.

Talking to members of national and provincial assemblies, the chief minister advised them to supervise and monitor ongoing development schemes in their respective areas and resolve people's problems on a priority basis.

He said the people had great expectations from the present government.

While talking to the District and Town Nazmeen, Mr Durrani said that the present government wanted to make the district government affairs people friendly. The government would give full support to carry forward the agenda for development and that was the common aim of all elected governments.

A delegation of tribesmen also called on the chief minister. He asked them to work selflessly for the development of country and the province and make the traditional jirga system more effective. He said centuries-old jirga system was an effective tool for resolving outstanding issues.

He also referred to a recent jirga in Bannu in which the chief minister himself was present where two rival groups turned friends. "Such healthy traditions should prevail everywhere in our society," he added.

Talking to a delegation of minority community, the chief minister said that the government had protected rights of all people of the NWFP. He asked the people life to inform the government about their problems so that the government could swiftly formulate a strategy to resolve them.

Talking to a delegation of Afghan refugees the chief minister said that the provincial government would continue to support the Afghan refugees residing here as it had been giving them refuge for the last three decades.
