HYDERABAD, Jan 24: District Public Safety Commission chairman Masood Pervez has complained of lack of cooperation of police authorities in redressing people's grievances after the promulgation of the Police Order, 2002.
Delivering a lecture at a training programme organized by the Aurat Foundation for women councillors at the district council here on Saturday, he said non-formation of the National Safety Commission, Provincial Safety Commission and the Police Complaint Authority was creating a host of difficulties.
He said DPSC officials were not being given powers of justice of peace under section 56, Cr. PC.
Mr Pervez said he made at least 50 correspondences to the home department but none of them was replied.
He said the Police Order, 2002, was also made a part of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 2001, to maintain check over police officials.
He said Sindh's commissions were still without funds.
Mr Pervez said police officers did not comply with directives of DPSC officials.
He told the councillors that it took a lot of time to ascertain facts of an application.
He said the DPSC would form committees on women's prisons and police stations at union and taluka council level to identify women's issues.
The EDO, community development, Ibrahim Qureshi, said the formation of citizens' community boards at union, taluka and district level as per provisions of the SLGO would yield good results.
He said the boards could submit development schemes to the district government for which 80 per cent share of the cost would be provided by the district government and the rest by the board itself. He said the boards could make its 20 per cent participation by way of labour and provision of land.
