ISLAMABAD, Jan 17: The Supreme Court on Friday accepted the petition for regular hearing of two doctors allegedly involved in cases being looked into by the NAB.
A Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui, Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar and Justice Javed Iqbal granted leave to appeal to the petition filed by Dr Anwar Kurd and Dr Nisar Ahmed.
Senior advocate Muhammad Akram Sheikh representing these doctors said that they have paid the required amount after plea bargaining with the NAB and the clause of disqualification was inserted after their deal, therefore, it did not affect them.
He argued that without making amendments in the constitution, no one could be punished merely in the light of judgment of the court.
Akram Sheikh said the clause of disqualification was inserted in the National Accountability Bureau ordinance even after payment by these doctors through bargaining, therefore, they could not be disqualified on this basis. He argued that instead of termination, there could be disciplinary action against these doctors.
Attorney General for Pakistan Makhdoom Ali Khan appeared on behalf of the government while Prosecutor General of National Accountability Bureau Arfan Qadir argued before the court, that these doctors were disqualified according to the laws.-APP
