DHAKA, Jan 10: The Awami League party on Saturday gave Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia until Feb 10 to fulfil its demands or quit.
"Prime minister, I am giving you an ultimatum to fulfil the 15-point demand by Feb 10 or you have to quit as people want your government to step down," Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina Wajed said while addressing thousands of supporters in Dhaka.
Khaleda Zia, who enjoys a two-thirds majority in parliament, has in the past refused similar appeals to step down or call new elections, pledging to serve out her five-year term, which ends in 2006.
The premier and Sheikh Hasina have a bitter, personal rivalry, with each woman trying to scuttle the government's agenda while out of power.-AFP
