PESHAWAR, April 25: Army and Railways splashed around under heavy rain to sail into the final of the 13th National tug-of-war championship at Qayyum Sports Complex on Monday. The muddy surface did make it difficult for players to balance themselves but failed to dampen their resolve. This added to the thrill much to the delight of enthusiasts.

In the senior’s 720 kg category, Army defeated Punjab 2-0 in the best of three bulls to book berth in the final, while the Railways edged past Wapda 2-1 in the other semifinal.

Army, again, defeated Wapda juniors 2-0 to cruise into the final of juniors category and the Railways won 2-0 the other semifinal.

Secretary general Pakistan Tug-of-War Federation Rana Muhammad Jamil said that the competition used to be held only in 720 kilogram weight category, but now the game’s international body had also allowed juniors’ 600 kilogram weight category.—APP
