KARACHI: Muttahida activist shot dead

KARACHI, April 23: A former activist of the Muttahida Quami Movement was shot dead on Saturday in Naseerabad by unidentified gunmen. Police said former joint sector in charge of Liaquatabad, Tariq Ali Khan alias Commando, was on his motorcycle. As he reached near Naseerabad bus stop, two men on a motorbike intercepted him and sprayed him with bullets. He received three bullets in his head, two in arms, and one in chest.

A head constable, posted nearby, noticed firing and returned the fire. A vehicle came there, which blocked the sight of the policeman, who stopped firing. Two men in the vehicle started firing at the policeman, who again opened fire at the vehicle, which later fled.

The traffic stopped for some time at the main thoroughfare and police reached the scene. The body was shifted to a hospital for autopsy and the road was cleared for traffic.

SUICIDE: A childless woman committed suicide in her home in Garden area on Friday.

Parveen Arif, 28, a resident of Badshahi Road, Subhash Nagar compound, in utter depression, on Saturday, hanged herself in her room with a ceiling fan.

COACH TORCHED: Enraged people set a coach on fire in New Karachi after it hit two motorcyclists and injured them on Friday.

Police said Khan Coach (PE-5886) hit two youths, Noman and Farhat, near Saleem Centre in New Karachi. Both the youths received injuries. They were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. However, angry people set the coach on fire. Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
