KARACHI, April 19: The City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, has called upon trained teachers to carry out plantation in government schools and colleges to beautify the environment. He was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a training course on gardening and plantation for teachers at the Civic Centre on Tuesday.
The city government has organised short and long term courses for teachers in gardening and plantation. Some 200 teachers were being provided training.
The trained teachers would then carry out plantations in their respective institutions. Plants for the purpose would be provided by the city government.
Mr Niamat pointed out that selection of teachers for plantation in educational institutions had been made after careful consideration.
The nazim said a clean and healthy environment was necessary because environmental pollution was a reason for the spread of diseases in the city, terming plantation as essential.
He said Karachi too could become a green city like Lahore and the city government was making endeavours towards the end.
He referred to the growth of date trees and development of model parks in 11 Towns, adding seven more model parks would be constructed soon.
The nazim told the gathering that millions of boys and girls were studying in educational institutions and the city could have a different look if each one of them planted a tree.—APP
