LAHORE, March 31: Four wickets by medium-pacer Charita Jayaweera and a belligerent half-century by opener Upul Tharanga helped Sri Lanka to clinch an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match Under-19 one-day series against Pakistan after winning the second by four wickets at the Qadhafi Stadium on Thursday.

Set to score 234, Sri Lanka achieved victory by reaching the target for the loss of six wickets in 47.2 overs.

Jayaweera gave Sri Lanka a perfect start, by claiming his all four wickets in a fiery first spell to leave the home team tottering at 103 for seven before Fayyaz Ahmed contributed 68 to boost the total to 233.

Pakistan, who lost the first match by seven wickets at Multan, struggled for runs from the start. Jayaweera removed opener Abid Ali (7) thanks to a fine catch by wicket-keeper Gihan de Silva. Nasir Jamshed caught by Gihan Rupasinghe at long-off for 15 before Jayaweera accounted for Fawad Khan (4) and Fahad Iqbal (11).

Leg-spinner Rupasinghe made things further difficult by taking two quick wickets to make the total 103-6. First he sent back a well-set Arsalan Anwar (38) and then removed Fawad Alam (20).

However, Fayyaz, who did not play the first match, steadied the innings with a sensible 61-ball knock which was laced with seven boundaries and one six. He received good support from Ghulam Dastagir (22) and Nawaz Sardar (27).

Sri Lanka started the chase in a brisk manner as Tharanga blasted 53 off 40 balls with 11 boundaries. Skipper Harsha Vithana fell for 14.

Opening bowlers Nawaz Sardar and Zohaib Ahmed suffered at Tharanga’s hands with Nawaz going for 34 in his first four overs and Zohaib’s two overs costing 21 runs.

Kaushal Silva (46 with three fours) also batted well while useful contributions from Chamara Kapugedera (23 not out) and Angelo Mathews (21 not out) sealed the series for the visitors in an unfinished stand of 47.
