Lawyers observe black day against Dera Bugti action

QUETTA, March 26: Lawyers’ community observed black day and held a rally in front of the press club on Saturday.to protest against the killing of tribesmen in Dera Bugti. The protestors were holding placards inscribed with slogans expressing solidarity with the victim’s families. They condemned the extra-constitutional methods being used against the political opponents of the government. They cautioned the government that political issues should be resolved politically instead of using force to suppress anti-rulers’ elements. Former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association Tariq Mehmood alleged that elected democratic governments and political process were not allowed to function in view of interference by the army.

He, while criticizing the use of state apparatus against Bugti tribesmen on March 17, asserted that the government violated the constitution for using force which resulted in the killing of dozens of people.

Mr Tariq stressed for amendment in the constitution to settle political issues keeping in view the sentiments of the people.

He said that the 1973 Constitution had been distorted following amendments incorporated in the constitution by the military dictators.

President of BHCBA Senator Amanullah Kanrani, senior lawyer Shakeel Hadi advocate, Sadiq Raisani advocate, Nazir Ahmed Baloch, Sajid Tareen, Ayaz Swati and Inyatullah Kasi in their speeches warned that violence invites violence which would create disorder in the society.

They demanded that forces from Dera Bugti and Sui should be withdrawn.

They also demanded that raids on the houses of political activists should be stopped and all detained political workers should be released.
