BANGALORE, March 23: Winning the 1992 World Cup under his mentor Imran Khan was the high point of Pakistan captain Inzamamul Haq’s career who was set to appear in his 100th Test on Thursday.

Pakistan defeated England in the final at the MCG and for Inzamam, memories of that tournament are still fresh in his mind. “That is one event I cannot forget,” said the 35-year-old batsman whose side plays India in the third and final Test of the series.

The green shirts have never won a World Cup since and almost 11 years on came what Inzamam says was something that he cannot forget either. “It was the 2003 tournament in South Africa where I could manage just 19 runs in six matches.” Pakistan failed go past the preliminary round on their African safari.

Inzamam does not remember which his best innings was. “Having played 99 Tests I wouldn’t have had only one or two good innings,” he responds to a question on which were his top knocks. His career-best 329 against New Zealand at Lahore obviously would stand out.

The Multan-born batsman who made his debut against England in 1992 and has played 336 one-day Internationals, scoring 10631 runs and 7238 in Tests, says that the journey to the 100-milestone has been tough and full of challenges.

“It hasn’t been easy but I want to go on and keep playing as long as I can,” he said taking a long hard look at the Chinnaswamy Stadium pitch where he will have to do really well to win the game.

“My family is here to celebrate my 100th Test but that would mean nothing if we do not come out winners here.”
