KARACHI: Ibad orders master plan for each park

KARACHI, March 23: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has directed district officials to prepare separate plans for all parks of the metropolis in order to make them attractive for public.

He was speaking at a meeting at the Governor’s House held here on Wednesday to chalk out a strategy for revamping the parks and make them attractive for visitors.

Advisor to the Chief Minister on Local Bodies Waseem Akhtar, DCO Fazlaur Rehman and other officials attended the meeting.

The governor also issued directives about the Fayzee Rahmin Art Gallery and an under-construction auditorium in Federal B Area.

He also reviewed the blue prints of various projects, including the Hill Park, Jheel Park, Kidney Hill Park, City Sports Complex and Kashmir Road.

The meeting decided to carry out barbedwire fencing of the Hill Park and removal of encroachments around it. It was also decided that jogging tracks would be constructed within the park’s vicinity. It was noted that the estimated cost of developing neglected parts of the park would be Rs100 million, whereas the construction of jogging tracks and fencing would cost Rs20 million.

The meeting decided to build a covered swimming pool for women, jogging tracks, skating section, besides a tennis court and a game complex of international standards for other indoor games at the Kashmir Sports Complex.

The governor regretted that no progress had been made on Jheel Park and Kidney Hill Park projects even after passage of many years.

He directed the concerned master planners to finalize these projects of public interest and asked the relevant officials to seek community help and cooperation of private sector for the revival of these parks.—APP
