Iqbal Haider quits PPP

KARACHI, March 21: A former senator and federal law minister, Iqbal Haider, on Monday announced his resignation from the basic membership of the Pakistan Peoples Party, citing his unanimous election as Secretary-General of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP).

Mr Haider said that he had e-mailed his resignation to party chairperson Ms Benazir Bhutto.

He said that the office of the HRCP secretary-general required his non-affiliation with any party, besides neutrality and impartiality.

He thanked Ms Bhutto and all party colleagues for extending their cooperation and reposing trust in him on all occasions.
