VEHARI, March 20: The city and its adjoining areas are facing acute shortage of drinking water as power supply to water works feeders has not been restored after disruption caused by a windstorm on Saturday night. Reports said a powerful windstorm hit the city and adjoining areas, badly damaging the network of Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) Vehari circle. However, electricity in the city had been restored on Sunday noon. The Noorshah, Pipli, Thingi and water works feeders were dysfunctional till the filing of this report. According to a Mepco spokesman, the officials had almost completed the repair work, changed the transformers and electric wire. He hoped that power supply to water feeders would be restored shortly.
People have demanded an inquiry into the delay in the restoration of electricity.
Police failure: Police have failed to arrest the alleged killers of three people who were murdered on Saturday night in Luddan area over a land dispute.
Reports said an enmity had been going on between the Khakwanis and the Joyias for the last 30 years over 35 acres of agricultural land. Some of the Joyia family members were sitting on the disputed land on Saturday night when the Khakwanis came and opened fire. As a result Munir Husain, Zafar Iqbal and Iqbal Husain Joiya were killed while Shaukat, Samar, Abbas and Aftab Joiya sustained injuries and rushed to the Luddan rural health centre.
The police have registered a case under Section 104/302 against 16 people and arrested some members — Aslam, Bashir, Shabir, Ghulam Farid and Abass — of the Khakwani family for investigation. — Correspondent
