RAWALPINDI, March 18: The Sui assault victim, Dr Shazia Khalid, left Islamabad for London, along with her husband, early on Friday morning. Federal Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that according to his information an NGO had made arrangements for the lady doctor’s departure. “Perhaps she has left Pakistan but it is not known from where and when she boarded the plane,” he said. When the immigration authorities at the Islamabad Airport were contacted, they said that no such passenger (named Dr Shazia) had boarded ‘any Nawab Bugti’s fort. Many rockets and mortar shells landed and exploded in the area, causing massive destruction and killing 20 to 30 people.
Reports from the area said that some rockets had hit a portion of Nawab Bugti’s fort and destroyed many rooms. “Nawab Bugti himself escaped at least two rocket explosions,” tribal sources said, adding that some members of Nawab Bugti’s family also received injuries. They have been brought to Lahri for treatment.
The injured FC personnel have been taken to Quetta, Rahim Yar Khan and Punno Aqil. The Quetta Corps Commander, Lt-Gen Hamid Rub Nawaz, and Inspector-General Frontier Corps Maj-Gen Shujaat Zamir Dar visited Sui on Friday and attended the funeral of the FC personnel killed on Thursday.
