BAHAWALPUR, March 9: The law and order situation was reviewed at a meeting held here on Wednesday with CM's Adviser Malik Khalid Mahmood Warren in the chair.

The adviser asked the officials to give top priority to the suggestions of the MPs and solve people's problems.

On the occasion, District Police Officer Arif Nawaz termed the law and order situation satisfactory and said four members of Irshad alias Babhi gang were arrested from Hasilpur.

He said 12 murder, 10 robberies, three rape and two motorcycle-snatching cases were registered last month in the district while valuables worth Rs500,000 were recovered. Besides, he said 92 proclaimed offenders were arrested and two ASIs were dismissed from service.

CLERKS' RALLY: Clerks observed strike and took out a protest rally here on Wednesday to press for the acceptance of their demands regarding raise in salaries. The clerks, despite intermittent light shower, gathered at the ground of technical high school.

The protest meeting was addressed by All Pakistan Clerks Association (Apca) provincial president Muhammad Afzal, secretary-general Zafar Ali Khan and other office-bearers.

They urged the government to accept their charter of demands, which besides others, included 'helmet allowance' and medical facility for their families. Later, the clerks marched along the roads carrying placards inscribed with slogans regarding their demands. This was the second protest rally in a week.

IUB RESULTS: The Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) on Wednesday announced the result of B.Ed annual examination, 2004. According to a notification, 277 candidates were declared successful out of 733 showing 35.37pass percentage.

Ms Arshia Siddique and Ms Alhamd stood first and second by securing 740 and 716 marks respectively while Kanwal Gul Khalid bagged third position by obtaining 687 marks.
