DADU, March 7: Primary and secondary school teachers boycotted their classes throughout the district on Monday in protest against non-payment of salaries to 58 teachers appointed on the deceased quota eight months back.
Hundreds of teachers and activists of PPP, STPP, PPP-SB, SNP, SNF, JSQM and MMA took out a procession in Dadu city. They marched on the main roads and staged demonstrations outside the district accounts office and the press club.
The protesters were led by the district president of the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf, Mr Ghulam Mustafa Sario, district secretary of the GSTA, Mr Hameed Memon, the district president of the Mosque School Teachers Association, Mr Gulsher Solangi, Sindh National Party leader Dilshad Bhutto and JSQM leader Allah Bux Chhajro.
Speaking on the occasion, they said 58 primary and secondary teachers were appointed on the deceased quota some eight months back but were not paid salary since then. They said that teachers were protesting and five persons were observing hunger strike unto death for the last seven days but no officer had resolved their genuine problem.
They threatened if their salaries were not released, primary and secondary schools in the district would be closed on March 8. Meanwhile, the condition of teachers on hunger strike Mushtaq Ali Shah, Zaman Soomro, Ali Raza Jamali, Aman Hingoro and Hajan Panhwar deteriorated and doctors advised them to end hunger strike unto death.
