SUKKUR: Channel breach floods villages

SUKKUR, March 3: Two villages and hundreds of acres of land inundated when a 250-feet breach occurred in Jam Wah near Shahdadpur on Wednesday night. As a result, two villages Nasir Arain and Hamid Ali Solangi, and hundreds of acres of land were inundated.

Crops of wheat, corn, banana and vegetables were destroyed completely. Villagers Khalil Arain and Aijaz Solangi told newsmen that irrigation officials had closed many watercourses of the Sanghar minor and Quba minor, originating from Jam Branch Wah due to which pressure built over banks of the water channel and breach occurred.

They held irrigation officials responsible for the breach and demanded action against them and compensation to villagers.
