PESHAWAR, Feb 25: An organization of residents of Canal Town, located near the University of Peshawar, on Friday asked the government to take action against butchers who, they said, were selling stale meat in the area.
Talking to journalists at the press club, Muttahida Kausar Organization, Canal Town, Chairman Nadir Khan alleged that butchers in the locality were selling spoilt meat, which was causing various ailments.
He alleged that the butchers had established illegal slaughterhouses in Nasir Bagh Road and Canal Town areas, where they slaughtered unhealthy cattle. He said some Afghan refugees from the Nasir Bagh camp also sold spoilt meat.
He said the residents of the area had complained to the food department but no action had been taken in this regard. He said the people themselves would take action against the butchers involved in malpractices if the government did not meet its responsibilities in three days.
