LAHORE: HR body's meeting

LAHORE, Feb 25: The Punjab Human Rights Monitoring Committee is scheduled to review the human rights situation across the province at its fifth meeting here on Saturday.

The meeting, to be chaired by regional director Kishwar Shaheen Awan, is to take stock of police activities in curbing various crimes against women, minorities and other weak sections of society.

Illegal detention, torture, honour killing, kidnapping, rape and other offences will be discussed at the meeting to be held at the committee's office. The committee is a subsidiary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights, which has established its branches in all the provinces to monitor situation.

Representatives of police, prisons and other departments concerned and Foreign Office officials are attending the meeting.
