‘Timber sold at throwaway price’

BAHAWALNAGAR, May 29: The district forest officer has allegedly sold timber worth millions of rupees at a throwaway price.

This was revealed at a district council’s meeting here on Wednesday.

Speaker Mian Shaukat Ali Lalika informed the house that an FIR had been registered against the accused.

Meanwhile, District Coordination Officer Chaudhry Muhammad Azhar has appointed EDO (agriculture) Chaudhry Abdul Sattar an inquiry officer.

DEATH SENTENCE: Additional District and Sessions Judge Sayyid Imam Ali Rizvi on Tuesday awarded death sentence to a man in a murder case.

Convict Muhammad Ameer of Chak 60-SP, Mandi Sadiq Gang, will have to pay a fine of Rs100,000.

The prosecution said Ameer killed his wife and her brother over a domestic dispute.

Meanwhile, District and Sessions Judge Mian Muhammad Akram Baito handed down seven-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs25,000 to a murderer.

Convict Qamar Masood killed one Muhammad Azam over a petty issue.
